Garage door, gate & fence FAQ

Straight answers to the questions San Diego homeowners ask us most. Do not see yours? Call (619) 386-2521 and we will help.

How much does a new garage door cost in San Diego?

Garage door pricing depends on the size, material, and whether you want windows, insulation, or a new opener. Because every home is different, we give a clear written quote after a quick measure rather than a one-size-fits-all number. Contact us at (619) 386-2521 for a free quote on your specific door.

Do you offer same-day garage door repair?

Yes, in many cases. Broken springs, off-track doors, snapped cables, and opener problems are the kinds of repairs we can often handle the same day across San Diego County. Same-day slots fill up, so call early at (619) 386-2521.

My garage door will not open. What should I do?

First, check that the opener has power and that the photo-eye sensors near the floor are clean and aligned. If the door still will not move, or you hear a loud bang from a broken spring, stop using it and call us. Forcing a door with a broken spring or off-track roller can cause more damage or injury.

How long does a garage door spring last?

Most torsion springs are rated for roughly 10,000 cycles, which is about 7 to 12 years for a typical household. If your door is jerky, loud, or will not stay open halfway, the springs may be near the end of their life. We can replace them with higher-cycle springs for longer service.

How much does a driveway gate cost in San Diego?

As a local-market estimate, a passive double or vehicle gate often runs from a few hundred dollars up to a few thousand depending on material and size, and automation with a motor and sensors typically adds more on top. Final pricing depends on your opening width, material, and whether you want an opener and intercom. We give a written quote after measuring.

How much does fence installation cost in San Diego?

Fencing is usually priced per linear foot and varies by material. As a San Diego market estimate, chain link is the most affordable, wood and vinyl sit in the middle, and wrought iron is at the higher end. Slope, height, and removing an old fence all affect the price. We measure on site and give a clear written quote.

Do I need a permit for a fence or gate in San Diego?

It depends on height and location. Many standard residential fences do not require a permit, but taller fences, gates on certain setbacks, and HOA-governed properties may have rules. We are familiar with local requirements and will let you know what applies before we start.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. San Diego Garage Doors holds California CSLB License 1081105 and is insured and bonded. You can verify our license on the CSLB website at cslb.ca.gov.

What areas do you serve?

We serve San Diego County, including San Diego, Chula Vista, El Cajon, La Mesa, Santee, Poway, Escondido, San Marcos, Vista, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Oceanside, Coronado, and National City. If you are nearby and not sure, just call and ask.

Can you match a new garage door to my house?

Yes. We install steel, wood, and custom carriage-style doors in a range of finishes and window options, and because we also do gates and fences we can coordinate the look across your whole driveway and frontage.
